B5__Homeostasis-and-Response The Thermoregulatory Centre which monitors and control body temperature is found in the brain. It has receptors to monitor temperature of blood and skin.
If temperature becomes too high:
- Sweat is produced from sweat glands and evaporates off skin to transfer heat away.
- Vasodilation. Blood vessels widen near skin increasing energy transfer away from body. Heat lost to environment.
If temperature becomes too low:
- Sweating stops
- Skeletal muscles rapidly contract - shiver
- Hairs stand to create an insulating layer.
- Vasoconstriction.
